Aqua Aura

In collaboration with 6 Interact clubs, this large-scale beach clean-up aimed to clean coastal areas and promote awareness of marine pollution. It successfully mobilised volunteers to restore the beauty of Mount Lavinia Beach, emphasising plastic reduction, community education, and ongoing environmental stewardship. Flyers and briefings educated over 150 participants, and the initiative aimed to become a recurring environmental campaign highlighting waste management partnerships and volunteer incentives.

Beyond the Ribbon

This impactful awareness campaign featured a webinar with doctors, educational flyers, and a heartfelt visit to Indira Cancer Trust, aiming to raise awareness on breast cancer and early detection. Greeting cards made by students at Menhandy School for Special Needs were sold to raise funds for the school's operations, raising LKR 20,000. This three-phase joint project with the Rotaract Club of Trincomalee aimed to conserve mangrove ecosystems through education and replanting. It involved a field visit, a seminar, and the planting of 150 mangrove saplings, educating students and community members on biodiversity, coastal protection, and climate resilience. Organised with support from the government and NGOs, it fostered strong community participation, with long-term plans for ecosystem monitoring and scaling to more locations.

2023-24 (Phase 1)

"Blue Horizons" is an ocean conservation initiative with a twofold purpose: raising public awareness of ocean conservation, and underscoring the role Rotaract clubs can play in advocating sustainable practices for preserving our oceans. February 4, 2024

Partnering with the Interact Clubs of Nalanda College, St. Lawrence's Convent, Hemmamali Girls' College Kandy, and Mahamaya Girls' College Kandy under Rotary's "Supporting the Environment" area, this initiative planted 200 trees at the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka's commercial forest in Pallekele, Kandy, with media partner Thuru Kapakaru. A collaborative endeavour involving Rotaract Clubs across several RID 3220 zones - General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Colombo Port City, ICBT, Colombo Uptown, its Southern Campus, and Kurunegala - this project enhanced learning environments during hot weather by donating 5 ceiling fans to Mo/B/Kanulwela Muslim Maha Vidyalaya in Bibile. A school representative travelled to Colombo to receive the donation, ensuring transparency throughout the process and enriching the educational experience for rural students.

Susumata Saviyak

2023-24

A multifaceted initiative led by Rotaract and Leo clubs, "Susumata Saviyak" brought comfort to cancer patients at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital. In its second phase, Rotaract clubs from Colombo Heritage, Colombo Port City, Ratnapura, and University of Ruhuna joined Leo clubs to clean a designated hospital ward, and in its final phase, clubs fundraised for milk powder to address the nutritional needs of children undergoing cancer treatment, distributed with the Husma Foundation's assistance.
