The surveillance logs have been breached once again, and suspect #28 behind Case File #16 is stepping into the spotlight: Rtr. Rana Rilwan, Vice President for 2026–27!
Every high-stakes operation needs a dynamic leader who doesn't just manage the room but pulls everyone in their orbit into new adventures. Fortunately for our club’s vision and perhaps slightly overwhelmingly for any introvert in her immediate vicinity our front line is backed by the vibrant, unstoppable energy of Rtr. Rana Rilwan.
If you ask me how I ended up here writing blogs for Rotaract Club of Colombo Port City, the answer traces straight back to one person: Rana. Exactly one year ago, she was the Editor at our campus club, casually scouting for members to join her editorial team. Naturally, she reeled me in. And if she hadn’t, I wouldn’t be sitting here co-editing this club today while she steps up as our VP. That’s just the Rana effect, you enter her orbit for five minutes, and before you know it, your whole trajectory changes.
Introducing Rtr. Rana Rilwan
Rana is basically that omnipresent character in a novel who somehow pops up in every single chapter. You’ve definitely seen her around campus; in fact, there's a strong argument to be made that she practically lives there. She is a real-life Barbie. You know how Barbie is an astronaut, a pop star, a vet, and a ballerina all at the same time? That is Rana’s daily routine. Her entire existence is just an endless, glorious collection of chaotic side quests. The dopamine spikes must be off the charts, and honestly? It’s a genuinely cool, fearless way to live.
Her curiosity for sports is boundless; she genuinely loves being on the field. The only lingering question everyone around her has is: can she play without accidentally injuring herself? It’s a 50/50 gamble, and at any given moment, her friends are privately praying for her physical safety. On top of her sports adventures and past editorial duties, she is the ultimate faculty volunteer. If an event needs an extra pair of hands, Rana is already on the scene, and there is a 1000% guarantee she dragged you along to help out too. Being her friend means you automatically sign up for whatever spontaneous adventure she's cooking up, and for an introvert like me, it’s both terrifying and deeply delightful.
The Rana Magic & The Radio Silence
To know Rana is to realize she either knows everyone in the room, or everyone already knows her. She has this warm, disarming magic that makes total strangers feel completely safe and welcome. You meet her once, and boom, you’re already on best-friend terms. But now that we’ve established what a wonderful, golden-hearted human she is, let’s talk about the real operational hazards.
Let the classified friendship records be completely honest:
- Say you have a pressing question that needs answering so you can hit a deadline that Rana herself assigned to you. You send the text. Does a reply come? Absolutely not. The deadline flies past, silence echoes in the chat, and you’re left sitting there realizing she’s just forcing you into character development, so you learn to figure things out on your own. Her unresponsiveness is downright legendary; she will give you flashbacks to that one text-ghosting ex, sigh.
- Her brain runs on about a thousand different tabs at once, which makes wild incidents completely normal. Case in point: casually leaving her iPhone in a tuk-tuk, never to be seen again. When told to find the bright side, her immediate response was, “What good? It’s not like I’m going to be more careful after this. I might just lose my phone again.” You just have to respect the sheer honesty.
- Put her in the front row, and she will scream louder than anyone else to cheer you on. She will hype you up, rope you into filming university promo videos, and make every crazy plan sound so insanely fun that you can't help but say yes. (Her intense, undying love for One Direction is a whole separate saga that honestly deserves a dedicated three-part blog series of its own).
Rana is that rare, vibrant force of nature who pulls you out of your shell, laughs through the chaos, and turns life into an adventure worth writing about.
